Today was one of those rare days when the good guys won.
The growing rebellion among football supporters across Scotland scuppered the plans of the powerful.
http://www.philmacgiollabhain.ie/the-scottish-spring/#more-2881
Just because people occupy influential positions doesn’t mean that they’re better than the rest of us.
It is also important when faced with people in power that act against the common good that you have an effective and civilised method of getting rid of them.
The people who buy the season tickets, the club merchandise and spend inside the stadium on match days were not, initially, being listened to.
Six weeks ago NewCo to SPL was a done deal.
With each passing day the fans of the dead club that used to play at Ibrox have confirmed by their own actions and inactions my harshest assessment of them.
The inability to have a public gathering without it descending rather rapidly into a bigoted karaoke needs no further editorialising from me.
http://www.philmacgiollabhain.ie/bomber-command/#more-2891
However, their failure to organise any meaningful movement in a peaceful democratic city in the age of social media is remarkable.
The SPL vote today is a massive personal setback for Neil Doncaster.
NewCo to SPL was very much his project, his plan.
He is damaged goods, just like the league he heads up.
The mainstream media have played a shameful role in this entire saga.
They should have informed the public, but instead they spewed out propaganda about the dire consequences of not allowing NewCo into the SPL.
Expect them to do same with the Division 1 fallback position.
The rules state that new clubs start in Division 3.
That is what should happen.
Today is no Brian Dempsey moment.
The rebels have not yet won and they may still lose to the massed ranks of marketing types who don’t understand what motivates the people who sustain the game.
They are supporters not customers.
They love a football clubs not a brand.
The Great Scottish Football war now will now see its climactic battle in the SFL.
It is the worst of times and the best of times for the national game in Scotland.
There is no doubt that it is a time for heroes not placemen.
Turnbull Hutton has emerged as an unlikely, but authentic voice of decency and sanity on the steps of the national stadium.
If justice finally prevails then those who cherish liberty will be dancing in the streets of Raith.

George Collins
There are still some iffy things.
I don’t think that our problems are over because Rangers don’t exist; the club may have expired but the fans, stadium and mindset still exists.
I don’t think The The should be allowed into the 3rd division at the drop of a hat, effectively by-passing all other clubs awaiting league status.
I still think that the furore surrounding the club’s demise has been carefully orchestrated by sections of the media with the collusion of former Rangers directors, even though it might seem otherwise, owing to the liquidation of the club. (What alternative was there?)
But what can’t be denied is that, through all this, you’ve been right at every juncture; and even though I’ve disagreed with some of what you’ve written, you’ve managed to see clearly the potentialities. For that you’ve got my unswerving admiration.
You’re correct in saying that without the fans Newco would’ve walked into the SPL; those pushing for The Rangers’ entrance must’ve been gutted about that one.
In fact, without the public’s incandescence about Rangers (deceased)’ plan to let them waltz away from their obligations and into their deserved position (rulers of the universe), this would actually have been the case.
It must be said that the public was made aware of this, by and large, through the continued efforts of your good self and others. Well done. Without you, they would’ve got away with it.
I still think this is what they planned; but now there’s a spanner in the works: they didn’t expect so much crap flying around.
Now the non-Rangers supporting public knows they can’t be trusted.
A big thank you must also go to the fans of the other teams as well: their belief in integriy over finance is to be commended.

Alright Phil.
I am a relatively new visitor to your blogs. I have been following you for several weeks now and have been following the story from the West end since February 14th. I dont get over to see the Celtic now been from Tullach Mhor, Uibhfhailli and with the costs involved but would hope to return some day soon with my son in tow and get to sample that taste i got from my first visit aginst Hearts in 1990. The totally unfounded and inflammatory accusations hurled at CFC in general, and Peter Lawwell in particular, last night on Clyde by the semi-literate and often incoherent John Brown must NOT be laid to rest in my opinion!
Celtic, through their legal representatives, should inform Clyde that they will seek recourse from the media regulator for giving Brown the platform to spout his vile views. I would also urge CFC to take Brown through the courts and seek damages! Although, having said all this, I think it will probably not happen!

Hi phil, speaking as someone who has been a long term season ticket holder at Celtic park I can honestly say that the new club gaining entry to sfl 1 was never a major issue with me. It has been the tactics employed with those people looking to achieve that aim that has really got to me, from the lies to the bulleying and the threats made. I know where they play their football is the issue which needs to be dealt with now but I am still looking forward more to the day when the dual contracts and illegal payments once again becomes the hot story, I want justice for my club who have lost valuable income and sporting achievements from the previous regime of that club, and I wait patiently until every last tale of this sorry story has been told.

It must be the long years of suffering from the propaganda off the field and corruption on the field that has left me addicted to the demise of the football club formerly known as Rangers. I suspect there are many addicts out there including some who may have books to write. Justice is oh so sweet and so worth waiting for when it finally comes; especially when the unjust attempt last minute subversion. This story is still in the early chapters; the forensic liquidation of the old Rangers will provide fellow addicts with much to digest. Given recent developments I predict a clear out of the old brigade at the SFA/SPL/SFL; no more room for Ibrox puppets masquerading as impartial governors.

So what abot the tribunal, the dual contracts. etc are we just to forget about this!!
I read on BBC tonight that Newco met with SPL chairmen on Sunday to discuss how they should approach todays vote. so even the appology was a scripted task to fool the fans that we have our pound of flesh. what the chairmen fail to recognise is that Rangers are a rotting corpse, having fallen on their own sword, there is no living flesh to be carved. Its sport we are interested in, the game. We all know they have the power to regroup and become a force again but what is clear that they have no remorse or indeed seem to have educated themselves by their gloating in seeing our game potentially crumble as a result of their behaviour. Time to call it theyll get 10000 season tickets in 3rd division if they are lucky. Tims for fans who have been absent to turn out in numbers, even if its for 3 games a season and show this mob that things can be done correctly. Chairmen need to get inventive, fans, true fans who love their clubs surely wont mind seeing some part-timers getting in a cheaper for say a three game package, even if its repeated all season, not if they love their club……..surely. Chairmen need to be bold, brave open and honest hold their hands up and say to the fans lets et every pound in we can. Give clubs a discount if they sell so many tickets (home and away both winners)………launch an away game season ticket for the SPL there are lots of initiatives that can be launched and if the SPL had spent the last four months thinking about them and sticking to the rules they could have had plans in place that recouped the lost cash. In short its time to dump the Rangers/Newco circus and get on with business. Leave them to sort themselves out……they are no longer important……we just dont know it yet

Surely for the integrity of Scottish football Sevco need to be put in Div 3. I still dont understand why there was a vote to allow them in the SPL. As a new company they should only have been applying to the SFL and their application to join the SPL should have been kicked out as soon as they applied. One more thing of they start on Div 3 they wont even have the biggest stadium inthe division.

Today is a wonderful day – for football and for Scotland, the day that Rangers were told no……despite the threatening rants of the those who write for the Rancid et al….
A club that cheated for at least a generation who displayed nothing but contempt for the rest made a belated, cynical and unsuccessful attempt for forgiveness and clemency. It didn’t work.
There is little doubt that this decision will cause hardship but that was always going to be the case regardless, time for imagination now and capitising on the unfamliar….
I expect a angry rebuke on the MSM in the morning, but they are on the long road to obscurity and they know it. This day is a triumph for the brave new media championed by a few good men, yourself as chief correspondent. The MSM relied on the usual cocktail of deceit, browbeating and misplaced confidence until it was way too late. Their fans…well enough said there. The result inertia followed by death followed by today’s rebirth….

All good again Phil – prophesies are being fulfilled.
Having not received a reply from the SFA to my last two e-mails, I sent a third with the subject “Unfit for Purpose” prior to the meeting today -
“I sent two polite e-mails last week – neither received a reply – not even an acknowledgement.
Following on, reports in the media indicate that the Newco situation continues to stagger from one crisis to another and as ever our national sport authorities are looking like they are incapable of reaching any resolution – let alone a timely one.
Indeed the whole thing has been farcical from day one.
You seem intent on disregarding not only your own rules, but those of UEFA and FIFA. The latter puts our honest clubs at risk in European competitions.
There is no transparency and it it quite obvious from the statements (televised and web based) coming forth from the chairmen of our clubs that all is far from well. I don’t need to elaborate further I’m sure.
Not only are your actions/inactions not resolving anything – indeed they are making matters worse – and the media reports are damning on your stewardship.
This reflects on us – the fans.
You are clearly ‘unfit for purpose’ on the evidence we have available and indeed are driving a knife through the heart of Scottish football.
I hope you are proud of yourselves – as fans we are not.”
– not expecting a reply but it made me feel better

Tom …..you simply feel the effects of years of being called paranoid when we raised our fears of cheating and back handed deals …so now we have been exzonerated and the paranoia was not ‘paranoia’ but simply true fears of what was happening …..we could see what was happening around us and nobody paid the least bit of attention ….all celtic supporters were called paranoid and we are now vindicated in our calls for fair play . Hold your head high Tom….you and i and many more would not let go until the rot was taken out of scottish football…and now we are half way there to doing so .We have a fair bit to go but i,m sure people will be more willing to listen to people who were correct in their calls that football in scotland was on its last legs and some were getting away with cheating and we were not meant to do anything about it as they “were the peepul’ …they themselves thought that scottish football ran around them and if the vote had went the other way today it would only have backed those people who think they are above punishment ….above the law .I laughed when i heard a newco supporter saying today that “We have went downhill and there is only one man to blame for this and thats craig whyte” ….alas there are still those who are blind and will not see.

The Wallace
Back Mr Toad and Toad hall, there is to be an inquiry set up at Westminster about the state of Scottish Football, according to this afternoon’s live blog coverage by BBC Scotland. Does anyone know any more about this? Why Westminster? Holy Rood should have been first out of the starting blocks months ago. Is it a case like the SPL too many vested interests? Lots of hats filled by the same few empty heads. Someone asked what a dead football club has got to do with how Scotland operates politically? Lots when officials some pleading leniency, others ignoring or even been seen to condone they way this whole farrago has been handled, attempted coercion, not so subtle bullying, downright lying, even Duff and Phelps ( any relation to Vanessa) have been downright obstructive and along with their actions and motives are themselves now under police investigation. What would our future Independent Parliament do over a serious problem if they are so inept over the trifling matter of a football club’s tax and debt problems? Like Doncaster and Regan et al over paid for jobs that they are not capable of.
Well done again Phil, your diligence has brought a definite sea change and an honesty of reporting that has been lacking in this our little, slowly we are becoming newer and fresher long may it continue.
You’ve even made the succulent lamb msm look at themselves and the changing conditions of their profession. Not that you are probably bothered, but I’m sure you would have been mentioned on the BBC Radio Scotland debate when they were praising the contributions of ‘bloggers, like RTC and eh,eh,eh other sites’ but I am not sure they could pronounce your second name from its spelling. I hope I’m not being too rude and ignorant, but is their any chance of giving out, just this once how it should be pronounced since I don’t have the Gaelic. I hope this request doesn’t offend, but as we have all seen if you don’t ask questions you can’t expect to improve yourself,

The (corrupt?) powers that be in Scottish football tried in vain to bully the SPL teams into accepting the rangers corpse into the SPL next season and much of the media tried to accommodate and support that view. The voice of Scottish fans re this proposal forced the chairmen to go down the ‘integrity’ route and reject the proposal.
The next stage for them was to propose, by intimidation and scaremongering, that Scottish football is in meltdown if the rangers corpse is not resurrected in the 2nd tier.
The integrity of some, hopefully most, chairmen of SFL clubs would appear to agree with their fans and insist that should the new club be successful in applying for membership they should start at the bottom tier. Anything else will have an adverse affect on attendances throughout Scotland as many will give up rather than condoning cheating and dishonesty in the game they love.
The mighty Sky TV contract is the lifeblood of the game we are told.
No newco in SPL/ 1st Div. and we would lose out on £16m.!!! No breakdown on how this figure is chosen.
Here are one or two points worth considering
*Since the SPL chairmen announced they would reject newco some of the clubs have had an increase in season ticket sales already. (eating into the imaginary ‘lost £16m’)
*A month ago it looked like the spl vote would go in newco’s favour…until fan power took over! SKY TV should consider this carefully…Their ‘fans’ …the subscribers …could retaliate to any cut in sponsorship by cancelling subscriptions and how much would this cost them in lost subscriptions and less attractive media for advertisers.
*In the event of SKY cutting back I would expect a massive campaign throughout Scotland to ‘Boycott SKY’
*The SFL clubs would benefit from a newco if that club could attract many of old rangers supporters. Why then should div 2 and 3 clubs vote to put them in the 2nd tier and miss out on potential big home gates on at least 2 occasions
If a new company gets a license to enter SFL, and such club can successfully pass the criteria required for this, then surely the fans of the lower divisions will also demand that their chairmen display the same ‘integrity’ as the SPL chairmen and insist that any new team starts at the bottom. Fan power hopefully will win in the end.

Just saw Mr Green on sky outside Tesco Govan Mega-store complain about not gaining re-admission to SPL. I thought to be re-admitted you had to have been a member in the first place rather than a new club.
On BBC news 24 sport bulletin at around 20:15 same thing.
Is there going to be a renewed battle for the old lost history now that the latest battle has been lost? Just a thought.
Also a quick ha ha to Mr Traynor etc for the last minute hope they gave the Bears today. Honest at my work a dozen came up to me with barely controlled smirks during the course of the day with the news that the vote had been postponed.
Thanks to my faith in your process I was able to stand strong and say ” Not possible, Don’t get your hopes up and (my favorite) Don’t believe everything you read in the MSM.” As the day wore on I found out how many of them couldn’t wait to tell the public face of CFC in my workplace (namely me) just what it meant to them to be the first to tell me that the brothers had re-gained control. As I felt the annoyance rising at my steadfastness of message I also felt a wee bit closer to my old Granda Jack and I felt a tenth of his strength and now I am looking forward to tomorrow.
Keep at them sir and thank you for interrupting the book. Don’t delay it too much as we all can’t wait.

And now I speak, being full of vision:
I speak to my people, and I speak in my people’s name to
The masters of my people:
I say to my people that they are holy,
That they are august despite their chains.
That they are greater than those that hold them
And stronger and purer,
That they have but need of courage, and to call on the name of their God,
God the unforgetting, the dear God who loves the people
For whom he died naked, suffering shame.
And I say to my people’s masters: Beware
Beware of the thing that is coming, beware of the risen people
Who shall take what ye would not give.
Did ye think to conquer the people, or that law is stronger than life,
And than men’s desire to be free?
We will try it out with you ye that have harried and held,
Ye that have bullied and bribed.

Yes, Phil. There will be heroes all over this great battle that will be worthy of the admiration and applause of all of us. They will be in the S.P.L., not least our own club that has obviously played an admirable game as can be seen from its very clear and forthright statement. They will be in the S.F.L. as some have already proved. Above all, they will be in the Internet ‘Bampottery’. It is in this flank of the attack that the most significant blows were delivered. They have weakened the mainstream beyond recovery. They have disgraced the authorities to the point of career suicide. They have awakened the sleeping beauties of the support to conquer the evil ‘queens’. They have transformed Snow White’s dwarfs into towering giants who have taken on the dark forces of Scottish football and put them down. However, there are still a few smouldering dragons to be slain and though we may now permit ourselves a wee whistle while we work, we must not allow complacency to sneak in.
May I doff my cap to all of you. Football in Scotland owes every single ‘bampot’ a deep debt of gratitude that will grow to an eternal thank you as Scottish football is restored to a game of unparalleled pride.

Turnbull Hutton has been magnificent.
I’m currently listening to the pro-NewCo propaganda on Radio Clyde – they had Bomber Brown on, unbelievably, together with Keevins and Gordon “Rab C Nesbitt” Dalziel.
They’re into overdrive about the financial calamity that awaits us if NewCo end up in Div3. No mention of justice, integrity, doing the right thing etc. Just more threats of the consequences of them not getting their way.
Never mind what the supporters of every other club in Scotland want; never mind that this whole situation is of their own making; never mind that they still feel like the victims here. Still bleating about their so-called punishments; they make me sick.

Listened to SSB tonight and thought it had been taken over by the comedy club, honestly, seriously, could not believe what I heard, where do I start, Brown Keevins or McCall.Keevins….sporting integrity dosen’t matter even if I’m being a hypocrite, well Mr Keevins the supporters of all the other clubs have a higher sense of sporting integrity than you do,just another so sorry example of the MSM failing to do their job in a way that would have any nuetral content in the belief that one of the corners of democracy that a civilised society would hope to have was functioning, this is not the case with MSM but it would be unfair to label everyone with the same brush,I think this has as much to do with how Scotland really addresses bigotry in our society as it does with this situation with Rangers.McCoist spoke of gloating and enjoyment in 94 when we were in trouble,I think there is a bigger picture and it’s about how we all learn and move on so that society is better for everyone, remember all the times when Celtic fans felt cheated at decisions that went against us,how it made you feel,we don’t won’t that for anyone, just fairness,if your team wins they win fairly and if they lose you want to lose fairly, that surely is sporting integrity and that must be the reason that Rangers are treated fairly as well and that the rules that are in place are adhered to without “fear or favour”.

That’s part 1 over. Let’s hope hope the SFL clubs follow suit and reject entry into the 1st division no matter the monetary implications. The games rules need to be the winner for the game to survive. Still can’t help thinking that this has dragged on far too long and has put pressure and the onus on all the clubs to decide their fate. When a simple ruling of liquidation means request entry at the lowest level. Absolutely no exceptions. The powers that be should hang their heads in shame for trying to orchestrate a quick return to the SPL for Newco . Same old organisation eh. Whether or not SFL vote against entry into the 1st division. Doncaster, Regan, Ogilvie and Longmuir should be made to fall on their swords for bringing the Scottish game into disrepute and for allowing this to drag on far far too long.

Mr Hutton was very brave in his statement on the steps of Hampden it will be very intresting if the powers that be try to take him to task for his comments.
Times will indeed be hard for the honest clubs left in the wake off this mess but a better future lies ahead for our game, the doom mongers and nay sayers(MSM)have nowhere to go and nothing now to write about since our club will not talk or deal with them.

I have to say that I have never experienced anything like these events in football and the efforts of others to destroy the integrity of the game for their own narrow interests. The fans have spoken and I hope they keep their word and get out and support their team. AS you say its the best of times and the worst of times and time to be brave. Thanks to you and like minded folk we can look forward to a better future for the game. Well done sir.
