Rainmaker required

Alastair Johnston has been around the Ibrox block.

Since the famous nod of the head in April 2011, he has been one of the few people to take seriously in this farce.

He was at a dinner of like-minded folk in Glasgow on the Friday before the Cup Final, and I’m told that he was his usual straight talking self.

I understand that members of the current regime have been asking him to be a rainmaker for Sevco in the States.

They wanted Johnston to use his contacts within the American business world.

Given the state of the Ibrox finances, I’m not surprised that the chaps in the Blue Room have made this play.

Sadly, I’m told that their pleas have been rebuffed.

He told the chaps at the top of the Marble Staircase that yes he could go to investors on their behalf.

However, he told the Blue Room chaps that those Wall Street types would want to see a return on their investment.

Consequently, Johnston explained that there was no point in him doing so as there was little chance of the Ibrox operation turning a profit in the foreseeable future.

You see dear reader it remains a loss-making business without a credit line from a bank.
