I was fascinated to read the stunning exclusive today in the Sunday Mail about Mr Jim Park and his connections to Sevco.
“Craig Whyte’s pal hired by new owner Rangers Charles Green” screamed the headline.
Well I certainly didn’t see that one coming.
These guys are really top class.
I suppose that is why they give each other awards every year.
Then my attention was brought to the fact that although the headline is still up the text has gone.
Perhaps the reason the Sunday Mail have taken the Park story off their site may be that they have just realised he is a former Daily Record and Sunday Mail Ltd Director!

Masonic Walker – Whether the dodos could or could not have afforded to pay the players they bribed is immaterial.
R!chard M”dely could have easily afforded to buy the two bottles of wine but that was no excuse for what he was ALLEGED to have done, nor was it proof that he was innocent. Anyway, the dodos managed to snatch the so-called catholic (aye, that’ll be right) judas johnston from under Celtic’s nose by offering him illegal payments, end of story.
And by the way, I am honest enough to admit that if Celtic are found to have used the EBTs in the same ILLEGAL manner as the dodos then they should have the book thrown at them too.
EBTs are like guns, you are allowed to use them if you do so within the rules. The dodos did no such thing.

Hector let them away with it. The SPL, the SFA and the SFL let them away with it. Regan and Doncaster let them away with it. FIFA and UEFA are letting them away with it. The police all over Scotland let them away with it. Dundee United, Hearts, Motherwell, Dunfermline and Rapid Vienna are only some of the teams that are letting them away with it. AND, most importantly, Celtic and Peter Lawwell are not only letting them away with it but are now licking Green’s a£se.
Lawwell now has it in his hands to seek to put them into liquidation if he is not paid his £40,000 within the next few weeks (or days even) but will he do it? NO CHANCE.

Any comments on the heavily conflicted Harper Macleod carrying out the investigation into Rangers Phil? No?

Iain, I suggest you read this article about the “conflicted” Harper MacLeod.
http://scotslawthoughts.wordpress.com/2012/08/06/the-errors-in-the-rangers-fc-fan-groups-offensive-against-spl-inquiry/
You may not agree with everything said but look very carefully at The Law Society of Scotland’s rule on conflict of interest.
August 6, 2012 at 11:28 pm

Iain, you’re right on the button.
They’re all out to get you: the SFA, SPL, SFL, all non Old Rangers fans, the media (especially James Traynor and Darrell King), Vladimir Romanov, Tsar Nicholas Romanov, Turnbull Hutton, Turnbull High School, the CIA, the KGB, MI5, MFI, Harper McLeod, Ally McLeod, Hey you get off ma cloud, Hey McLeod get off ma ewe,…
It’s an absolute scandal that there’s even to be an investigation. Can’t they just accept the word of Sir Walter (who was still getting payments while at Everton), rabble-rouser Jardine (I hear he’s arranging a march on Harper McLeod’s offices on Saturday), Ally “Mr Transparency” McCoist (although he seems to be less keen on transparency here … I wonder why?), or, the daddy of them all – Sir David Murray (although he’s easily duped so he may not have known what was going on).
I think you should complain to Bomber Broon, he’ll get it sorted; we wahnt tae see thae title deeds!!

CAsting Sams hyperbole aside….
Consider what the non-paranoid Celtic fans would have thought is say a year or so ago the SFA or SPL had hired a law firm with close links to Rangers to investigate the many indiscretions of Neil Lennon. If for instance David Murray or Craig Whyte was quoted giving a glowing reference to the law firm on their web page (a rference subsequentlt removed once Celtic fas noticed and mentioned it). Or if the law firm had work closely wit Rangers on several occasions. Or indeed if David Murray’s son had by coincidence, been given an internship at said law firm.
Now just imagine the reaction of teh Celtic fans…
Yes I’m sure they would be completely reasured with “ah but the law society said its fine!”
PAul…you can come up with as many of your pieces attacking Rangers or justifying this investigation by a heavily conflicted law firm if you like.
The decision to use the firm stinks…as I am sure you would agree in the circumstances I have suggested above.

Iain – so what if Harper McLeod represented Celtic? So what if a relative of a Celtic board member had an internship. Scotland is a relatively small country, and Harper McLeod are a massive MASSIVE legal firm in Scotland. They have an intricate understanding of Scottish and sporting law. As the Scotslaw blog says, do you REALLY think this firm, and its directors/board members/partners would consider, for even a millisecond, of compromising their professional, and indeed moral, integrity to scratch Celtic’s back?
Maybe if Oldco had consulted with Harper McLeod none of this would be happening. But that could have created a “conflict of interest”, couldn’t it?
August 7, 2012 at 4:55 pm
PaulMc
Hi Iain. My main point was not about the actual article, as I did try to point out to you. I asked you to look at The Law Society of Scotland’s rules on conflict of interest, of which there is a link in the aforementioned article. When you read it you see there is no conflict of interest, especially in what you mentioned above.
I wasn’t trying to produce a piece attacking Rangers, lets face it, if I’d wanted to do that I could’ve referenced literally hundreds of websites and blogs that do that particular job without being very relevant to the current situation. If you disagree with The Law Society of Scotland’s rules on conflict of interest perhaps you could take it up with them? Harper MacLeod will have followed those rules to the letter in dealing with this issue.

A bit off the subject, just had to note David Murray(remember him) assuring everyone absolutely no cheating and duel contracts through EBT’s were carried out during his tenure. Reminded me of the Bill Clinton/ Monica Lewinsky speech,, ” I did not have sex with this woman” ……look how that turned out. He also had a dig at the governing bodies, who to be fair have tried everything to help the carcass as much as possible. Sally again letting us know he is not aware of EBT’s being paid as a second pay structure during his time at the club. If they are so sure, why don’t they all insist on an investigation, where are all the people who were named in the TV documentary. Why are they not shouting from the rooftops and proving their innocence. If I was in their shoes, that is exactly what I would be doing. The what about them stuff is doing it’s rounds.juninho, paid through an EBT, declared to the HMRC, then Brian Quinn advised the club to cease with it and pay the tax difference. The only Celtic player, ever. How about it MSM, print the real story, you know the facts. And stop playing to the ‘MOB’ and rabble rousing. Shameless B#####ds

More dodgy connections than Mark Thatcher this lot.
Phil do you think Celtic were aware of the EBT scams and undeclared contracts across the city, for some or all the years they were used?
Doesn’t seem credible..

I am an avid reader and admirer of your blogs and have “commented” once before on the subject of Hugh Dallas still pulling the strings of referees from his position of power on the UEFA Referees Committee.
Once more I wonder if he used his UEFA influence to ensure that the Dutch F.A. reported Charlie Mulgrew’s ” 2 yellow card non-violent red card sending off ” in a pre-season friendly with Ajax which would normally have been ” forgotten about ” to the S.F.A. who would then have been obliged and no doubt delighted to suspend Charlie for Saturday’s match with Aberdeen.
The finger of suspicion points to either ” our man in Europe” or perhaps one of his ” brothers ” at the S.F.A. in my paranoid opinion !

If the Daily Record changed its name to: The ‘Daily Ranger’s News’ would all sensibly minded football supporters (including Cletic supporters)still continue to buy this rag? If it changed its name to: ‘The Daily Bigot’ would you still continue to buy this dodo daily? Or if it changed its name to ‘The White Anglo Saxon Protestant Record would that even make any difference? I suggest you think twice the next time you purchase this poisonous diatribe because these titles would be more suitable to the toxic crap you know as the Daily Record . . .just saying is all!

They just can’t help themselves can they? Did they really think this was going to blow over? It’s got years to go yet. They have no shame and are treating the public like fools – not just their own supporters but everyone else’s, and by extension the country.
Get rid of these outrageous chancers, break everything up to pay off as many as possible (as well as expected fines), arrest and shame those responsible (yes, that means you too D+P) – and allow the fans to run the club from scratch, from the bottom; if they really love their club they’d make it happen.

Definitely a web of deceit, I fear we will never find out the proper version of events of the last 140 years at the den of darkness. Newco’s history isn’t starting too well either. Why do they always get positive spin from our friends at the MSM. That is a question that all normal minded people should be asking. I haven’t bought a paper since the ‘thugs and thieves’ headline. I think it is time for all Celtic supporters to let this ‘mob’ know we are not having the wool pulled over our eyes by not buying any of the offending tabloids. Let’s just see what happens

EBT’s not being declared to the football authorities is against the rules. Also an EBT does allow an advantage on wages because the tax paid is a lot less than if they paid through a normal PAYE. FACT !!!! So Oldco if found to be paying EBT’s are guilty of unfair advantage, also known as cheating…..
August 7, 2012 at 6:43 am
John Reid
Mason, are you kidding on? You don’t recall any of the ebt recipients on the field? You might want to have a look at the very enlightening “Rangers: The men who sold the jerseys” Your whole team were on them!! Are you also trying to say that deliberate financial incentivisation did not contribute to rfc’s ‘success’? Why is it only deadco fans that believe they are being punished, while every other clubs fans see consequence? Ah I get it now, your right and the rest of the world is wrong, silly me??
August 7, 2012 at 6:49 am
Kevin
Mason – are you being serious? You can’t recall any players in the team with an EBT? At one point there was hardly a player in the team who didn’t have one!
And just to set you straight declaring that the club used EBT’s in one sentence on the accounts does not address the problem rangers gave the SPL and SFA – namely players contracts were registered with the football authorities, EBT’s were not (see Side Letters for details)
And finally, again, perhaps you are at the wind up and I’m still to fully wake up but you reckon Rangers could have afforded the players without saving millions of pounds in tax? Here’s a wee reminder for you – Rangers were liquidated BEFORE the final bill arrived for the unpaid tax. Your club were goosed without the EBT SCANDAL.
Rangers gained advantage on the playing field by dodging civil taxes. Taxes that should have gone to schools and hospitals. Those of a rangers persuasion should dwell on that.

Masonicwalker, seriously? Whether or not Oldco Rangers could have afforded Barry Ferguson is irrelevant – could they have afforded him AND say Numan, Klos, Flo at the same time? The simple fact is that these EBTs were undeclared, under the table payments, as outlined in the sideletter. If an investigation is called into the EBT for Juninho, so be it, it makes no odds to Celtic, according to Paul McConville’s blog Aberdeen would be entitled to the league that season if title stripping results.

MasonWalker, you think Rangers were “comfortably” paying off their debts before Whyte arrived? Well, as one of my old maths teachers used to say, “Show your working!”. Can you provide evidence to that effect? (please note, “because David Murray said so” does not constitute evidence)
