I have read many books in my life.
Some I loved and some I hated.
However, I have never formed an opinion of a book before it was published.
Many on Planet Fitba have done just that.
It is hardly the identifying feature of someone who cherishes freedom of speech.
Rather it is more redolent of a closed mind.
So far very few people have had the opportunity to read Downfall.
The Downfall readers club are an eclectic bunch, but they all said they liked it.
Several of them were employed to be deliberately critical of it in order to improve the book.
I am, of course, the last person to have a valid opinion on the book.
Any author would say the same of their work.
You don’t have to buy this book, you don’t have to read it and you certainly don’t have to like it.
I just took a call from the publisher and he said that the first print run had been released to market.
It is now in their respective distribution chains.
Soon the people who get their books up the Amazon will receive Downfall in the post.
Other people will get their copy the old fashioned way by going into a bookshop.
For me the dedicated bookshop is a wonderful place to lose yourself for an afternoon.
If you do get Downfall then I hope you enjoy it.
For me it is the culmination of an amazing unplanned journey that started when I read some posts on Celticminded.com by anonymous posters who are now my personal friends.
The telling of this story is also a tale of how new media came to dominate on Planet Fitba.
Downfall will soon be for sale in a good bookshop near you.
Whether you get the book or enjoy the experience of reading it is entirely down to you.
As for the author, well I really do need that vacation!

Downfall has just Amazoned through my letterbox, just in time for reading on my flight to New York City at the weekend. After I have digested it,I shall be spreading the word by passing it on to my cousin in the NYC Celtic Supporter’s Association in the Parlour Bar in Manhattan.Erudite debate and discussion will no doubt ensue amongst the expat faithful therein. Thanks,Phil and good luck.

Received my copy of Downfall in the post today.
Will be sitting out in this afternoons sunshine to read it.
Despite having ordered it on 25 July at £8.99, amazon have let me have it for their current price of £7.29. Seems like an amazing deal.

Hi Phil,
I’m just sitting here thinking that you must have just made history. This must be the first ever book written about a football club that NONE of it’s fans will purchase – or even acknowledge the existence of!
In addition,95% of the sales will come from fans of it’s bitter rival. (past tense of course!).
I can’t wait for it to come by post. i’m going to drive to the Rangers Superstore and pick up a copy right now. Beat the crowd and all that!
PS You can start writing Vol 11 from Tuesday when Lord Nimmo goes back to work!
Well Done, phil!

Phil,
I have been a huge fan of your work and was inspired when you visited our club in Irvine just after administration announcement. (I was the guy who had a St Mirren supporting mate in the know and like you was 100% sure of liquidation). I work in Glasgow city centre and ordered your book via telephone from a well known bookstore in Glasgow on Wednesday afternon and received a text message at 4pm Thursday from same bookstore informing me said book was ready for collection. At 4.45pm on Thursday I was reading a work of art. It was proudly displayed on the Train home to sunny Ayrshire – the reaction of the Orcs on viewing the title alone was priceless. I have finished the book and have the jungle drums beating already to my fellow Celtic Fans. A GREAT READ PHIL – YOU HAVE DONE US ALL PROUD.

If you cherish freedom of speech why do I read of you blocking folk who disagree with you calling Sevco fans ‘Trailer Trash’? Surely they have a right to an opinion too?

They have the right to an opinion just as I have the right to ignore it.

Sorry Phil excuse my ignorance, meant to say well done with the book, I hope it enlightens the doubters and vindicates everyone else. I hope you enjoy your holiday. You definitely need a break. All this must take it out you. I agree with all that this story has a lot more miles in it. Be prepared for more wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Newco fraternity. But I know that won’t stop you. YNWA

There is some weird subliminal stuff going about.
Its taking its toll on some in very strange ways.
I seen a bedraggled madman up Sauchiehall street.
He was swating away imaginary wasps, and holding in his hand a crumpled piece of paper with an artistic interpretation of the RTC cracked crest on it. He was thrusting it into passers by, shouting “HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN!!!”

Hi Phil,
Bought the book from Amazon, now keenly awaiting its arrivsl and the greedy read which will follow….
Forgive my cynicism but….
The Sun are now serialising Stevie Chalmers book, all due respect to the great Steve of course but this would not be a clumsy, paltry attempt by the Sun to placate the Celtic support following their cowardice upon facing the predictable hatophobic response from those who follow Sevco protesting about your work….
The work that the MSM in themselves could not, would not write..
And now will not serialise…
Shame, shame too that they should use a Celtic legend in this way, in my view…
Nonetheless congratulations on the book Phil, I am really looking forward to it

Well done on the book and to you for having the courage to stand up to these people.
I’m pretty much fully electronic these days, so will try to await the arrival in Kindle form (but may cave in).
I am desperately trying to find if there is any legislation regarding Phoenix companies that attaches to the company rather than the directors or owners, because they (Chick Green) have definitely moved into full scale “this is Rangers stronger than ever” mode. All the legalese I have read surrounds not being allowed to name the company in a certain way if likely to be confused with the old entity. Plainly that is the case as he believes it, the horde believe it and the MSM seem to believe it.
Where’s legal process when you need it. Bastards.

Stephebhoy – The new THE rang”rs football club is not one bit different from the old dead but not buried one so nothing really has changed except that they can now carry on from where they left off debt free and with the whole world, including UEFA, SFA, SPL, SFL, FIFA, D&P, BDO, HMRC, MFI,
B&Q and Celtic FC all egging them on to victory. As far as I can see the book will only be telling us everything we already know but without the drama and excitement we had when we thought they would be getting obliterated rather than resuscitated. So, in other words, it’s back to square one.

I just hope as many sevco fans read the book and discover how badly they have been shafted by their beloved rainjurs.maybe then they will redirect some of their bile.if Celtic were in the same boat and a non fiction account of what happened was published, what would be the point of trying to discredit the author??you said the book is not about the fans, but the hierarchy.the “fans”in last few months have written their own “Downfall”on blogs and forums,t.v and radio all by themselves.some of the slanderous mindless sludge I’ve read today on Amazon is,as a Scot, saddening.fuck it.heard Micheal Mann is trying to get a few bob together to buy the rights….who do you want to play you?Colin Farell?,Dougray Scott?Ed Norton?I know who’s going to be playing the cheeky chappy…..tom cruise has agreed to gain 10 stone to achieve super sallys physique.Cohen brothers are working on the Screenplay with Peter Mullan helping with translation.Agent Smith from the Matrix is playing the Taxman.im there,in the cinema, with ma popcorn…munching and laughing ma heed aff!!!

Just read it and left a reply to it. I think that this is going to be the norm all across the board. All and sundry painting the picture of a so called fake Oirish IRA sympathiser and bigot, with full character assassination. This is classic behaviour from the hordes when there is any negative press as regards to their dead club. They just don’t want to know the truth, it hurts so much. I would still want to know no matter how bad it was. I just don’t get why they are like that.

I like many others Phil want to congratulate you on the excellent but crucial work you have carried out in exposing the eventual demise of Rangers FC. In no small part to you, we have been informed about the shocking and wreckless governance of Rangers FC. I take no joy in what’s happened at Ranngers and I am a devoted follower of Celtic and season book holder. Some may be incredulous about that point but it’s true. I will most certainly be ordering your book and I’m sure I will struggle to put it down once I get started. I again want to thank you for enlightening us all about the stories well before the mainstream media had the motivation or balls to do so.
September 6, 2012 at 5:19 pm
Phil Mac Giolla Bhain
Thanks Gerard.
The book is an attempt to create a lasting record of how this story was originally told and an attempt to put the posts into some sort of coherent structure.
For the record the book is not about the RFC fans.
It’s about what their club did.
It’s about what the media did not do.
It’s about what the SFA/SPL tried to do.

Congratulations Phil on doing what the knuckle dragging hacks of the Scottish media could never do even if they wanted to…namely …write a book about the corruption and death of rangers f.c, The biggest footballing story ever to hit Scottish football with global reverberations and all the hacks can do is peddle the same old poison and pretend its business as usual.
They (the pathetic and deluded bigoted hordes of sevco supporters and other sinister beings) are going to squirm when ‘Downfall’ gets out onto the streets and into the thousands and millions of homes up and down the country and beyond. When it gets discussed and analysed by all clear thinking and objective people in pubs and clubs, in libraries, in schools, colleges and universities, at bus stops, in workplaces and a thousand and one other mundane parts of society by people who are not content to accept the nonsense that passes for ”news” inside the toilet rolls they shamefully still call newspapers. Sevconians and ‘others’ will be left behind in all footballing current affairs and discussions regarding dead rangers and as a result will again be marginalised through lack of knowledge and understanding… unless they buy the book which they may have to do even if it breaks their hearts in the process.
I have ordered my copy of ‘Downfall’ and another for a friend if I can find one lucky enough to warrant it.

Ah, Phil, the exhilarating pleasures of assumption and presumption! I wish your book well if for no other reason than it is your profession and your income. Personally, I have honestly not made a final decision as yet whether or not to purchase one. I have been following the drama recorded in your book for so long that I am not convinced, as yet anyway, that I want to troll through much more of it (Somehow I feel some of my own assumption and presumption in there). Even though ‘Downfall’ (I do like the simplicity and forthrightness of your title) will probably be the definitive work to date on the subject and the writer probably the most qualified to collate and present the evidence, I am tempted to wait till the saga ends and then, perhaps, include ‘Downfall’ as a crucial part of my in-depth study of events. In the meantime, Phil, if it meets the standard and recommended fair of the literary world, sex, violence and some action, then I could well be tempted to rush to it right now :>). Seriously, I wish you well and more with the sales and I thank you for the captivating and pleasant reading you have provided throughout your investigations and your current trek to the hardbacks and the paperbacks and even beyond to Amazon.

My purchase is made and the paddle has been put away from the jaunt up the Amazon. We have only one bookshop in Shetland and I can’t wait for the shop to get it in.
Plus, I look forward to having it to hand when a certain bear who is in “de-nile” (see what I did there..;-)..) approaches me to discuss the sorry saga of his dead club. On Sunday he referred to you as “Timmy 3-names” and once I had got over choking on my pint I tried to eplain that shooting the messenger was way too late and never going to change the truth of the situation. With that he retreated to the public bar to watch a Scottish 3rd division match of some description while we continued watching the EPL.

I can’t wait to receive my book. I’ve never looked forward to something so much. I believe that you will receive personal attacks on your character from the very people you have shown up to be dishonest and hiding the truth. Namely the MSM and all people associated with the Oldco/ Newco/ Sevco.they have all collectively denounced everyone who dares to utter the death of the Oldco and are constantly repeating the timeline of the club has not been broken. Phil, you have shown them all up for what hey are. And thanks to you the truth is out there for all to see. And with facts to back it up. There will be plenty of wailing and gnashing of teeth to come, and I can’t wait to here the drivel that spouts from their collective deniality( if that is a word). roll on the book.

Congratulations on the book.

My copy is coming up the Amazon thankfully and I look forward to reading it. I have posted elsewhere my total surprise that so many people claim to have read it already! Almost all of them in a very negative frame of mind. Curious, that one.

Indeed so.
Less than ten people (and I don’t include myself in that number) have read the book at this juncture.
